Why US Cities are increasingly becoming more dangerous to bike in.

As I was reading the article there were a few main points that I learned why it is still dangerous to cycle in cities. The growth of cycling in cities is growing very fast and the roads are not all built to bike on. Most drivers do not understand how to share the road. Cities are very busy and mostly every city is just growing and a now there will be many more cars and distracted drivers.

The growth of cycling in cities is only growing. It is a much healthier lifestyle and a lot of people enjoy it. But it can be very dangerous in cities. People do not understand how to share the road what so ever. A problem with that is that there are some bike lanes but for the most part they are only for short distances. As I was reading the article it mentioned how around the 1950s they decided to engineer most roads to make them for fast moving automobiles. I am sure so much has changed since the 1950 engineers but most of the roads are still there from them. Another topic I wanted to mention was how the article states, “almost 1.35 million people die each year in traffic accidents.” It is a huge issue and it needs to be fixed. The speed limit should most definitely go at least miles per hour down first off.

I decided to choose this picture because there are bikers in a city and it looks to be that they have their own lane. This is a very safe option because they also have a fence protecting them from cars running into them. Obviously every city is different so it might be tough to do this in every city but a bike lane is a great place to start.

To conclude my thought I think cities are very capable of making their roads much safer and it should be enforced more than it is now.
